10 Things You Need to Know About Monkeypox — But Don’t Panic Just Yet

I couldn’t keep this information to myself.

Usually, I’m not a worrier, but since the pandemic took the lives of so many people worldwide, I couldn’t ignore the latest threat to humans.

I had Covid in early May. My symptoms were mild; low fever, coughing, and exhaustion. I was among the lucky ones. Now there’s monkeypox. Even the name is ominous.

We don’t know what kind of threat monkeypox will be to Americans or worldwide. However, it’s wise to have information.

I’ve culled this from the New York Times article to share with you:

  1. 21 Americans are infected with monkeypox, according to the CDC. 11 states are reporting cases.
  2. Out of 17 patients, all but one were among men who had sex with men; 14 had traveled to other countries in the three weeks before symptoms began.
  3. The monkeypox total worldwide rose sharply this week to near 800 cases.
  4. The virus has spread to at least 31 countries outside Africa, where it is endemic.
