Banish Your Self-Defeating Thoughts Now to Live a More Peaceful Life
Writers, readers, and all humans, be careful what you tell yourself.
My early morning journaling revealed that I believed my self-defeating thoughts. What a foolish move.
Last night I checked my Medium stats — reads, claps, etc. and I was disappointed. Unfortunately, I did not receive as many accolades as I hoped, and this fact entered my mind upon awakening the following morning.
As I see articles written by some of the prolific Medium contributors selected for further distribution, I know I fall short of their many reads and other signs of success. Way short.
I’m almost at my one-year mark writing for Medium. I’m thrilled that I have 237 followers, and last month I made $26. Not much — still, my earnings are inching up monthly — a promising sign.
I’m not writing for the money. However, earnings are a hallmark of success. Plus, I wouldn’t turn up my nose at cash.
When my boys were young, I often reminded them not to compare themselves with others. Always do your best and know that improvement comes with practice — no matter the sport, job, or activity.
Interestingly, I was comparing myself to others.
