Bringing a Little Smile to Someone’s Face is Really a Big Deal

Making someone’s day could be the best move you make today.

I was playing in a friendly pickleball game that normally would be competitive yet fun and exhilarating.

However, because of my errors, I became upset and a bit flustered, and felt inadequate — silently berating myself. Another player rolled her eyes, huffed, and muttered her annoyance to me. I did not speak up about it, but it hurt my feelings.

After the game, Kathy, a player who noticed this wordless rebuke, comforted me with gentle words saying, “pay her no mind. She’s unhappy with everyone, not just you.”

Kathy’s caring generosity was a balm that soothed my wounded pride. She saved a day that may have taken a nosedive due to my sensitivity.

I’m sure you also have experienced a minor disappointment and were uplifted by kindness from another. What a gift compassion can be.

Bring a smile to someone’s day with a simple kindness or a touch of compassion.

I know most humans offer simple kindnesses. However, writing about it is a reminder to me and to anyone to continue with these courtesies.
