I don’t generally follow the lives of celebrities. Thus, I was shocked and saddened to read about the ghastly murders of Kelsey Grammer’s father and younger sister.

I always loved the character “Frasier,” played by Grammer, in the television shows Cheers and Frasier and never would have guessed the pain he suffered.

When Kelsey was 13, his father, Frank, was shot and killed by a deranged man trespassing on his property. The man responsible for the murder was found not guilty due to insanity and was committed to a psychiatric ward.

Seven years later, when Kelsey was 20, his 18-year-old sister was sitting alone outside a cafe where she’d finished her shift and was waiting for her boyfriend. Karen was kidnapped and raped repeatedly by four men and brutally murdered by one of them.

Kelsey had this to say:

I was her big brother. I was supposed to protect her. I could not — it very nearly destroyed me.

Unfathomable tragedies, yet there’s more.
