I’m so excited for this year’s game. I’m a diehard 49'r fan.

Sorry, Patrick. I like him a lot, and if Kansas City were playing anyone else, I’d be rooting for him.

I’ve been a San Francisco fan since the days of Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Steve Young. I was known to have a hell of a good time at those parties. I think. Yes, I was drinking in those days — at least on the weekends.

As we know, alcohol is the common denominator at Super Bowl parties and can pose a problem if you have quit drinking or are trying to cut back.

These 5 tips may help you manage your drinking at this year’s celebration:

  1. Have a plan for managing triggers and cravings.

Meditate or have quiet time before you leave home. You may need to call a friend when there for support. At the party sip a non-alcoholic drink, preferably one of your favorites.

Remember, if this party is too much for you, stay home. You don’t owe it to anyone to show up. Show up for yourself.
