Are You Missing Out by Not Noticing the World Around You?
Are we too busy to pay attention to our surroundings?
Abby and I were walking the path surrounding the property of her new home, which is located on the bay in a lovely town across from San Francisco.
We stopped at the large briny pond to admire the birdlife that calls this area home. Egrets, blue herons, mallards, and geese. Others that land in the numerous trees are hawks and eagles.
We even spotted a sea otter rushing out of the pond and heading towards the bay. Perhaps we disturbed him?
Looking up at the hill ahead of us, I was astounded by all the various species of trees and the incredible shades of green. Everything from yellowish-green to a deep forest, almost black-green.
Abby commented, surprised at how observant I am.
Hmm, I thought. Interesting, as I often berate myself for not noticing what’s right in front of me.
I often rush even when I walk my beloved Golden Retriever, Merlin, in the morning.
Why was this experience at Abby’s new home different? And how can I incorporate that into my ordinary, everyday life?
That experience was precisely that — Abby’s home was new to me, and I wanted to see it…
